Honey as medicine is only part of apitherapy, it's extraordinary - medicine and precious food at the same time - are known since antiquity. Thracians called honey live food.

Honey is assimilated very easily by the body and offers energy and bioactive substances and nutrients. Micro-element content of honey is similar to that of human blood. Vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, enzymes, flavonoids, aromatic compounds, phytohormones, organic acids - lactic, citric, malic, oxalic, dextrin, nitrogen compounds - in total 435 substances. This provides honey a special place in regulating body functions.
Any kind of honey has specific properties: lavender honey heals coughs and sore throats, lime honey eases fever and stomach pain, prevents migraines, because it is a good prophylactic and a very good natural remedy for pneumonia, asthma, nervous states and tuberculosis; fir honey is useful for respiratory disease, Acacia honey is a good sedative and tonic, horse chestnut honey increases blood pressure, chestnut honey has antimicrobial action, especially for stomach, intestinal and kidney diseases. Mint honey is a good natural medicine against pain, it has antihemoragic and refreshing capabilities, sunflower honey is useful in bronchitis and stomach problems.
Field flower honey has a strong antimicrobial action, the orchard (fruit trees) variety cures kidney, lung and bowel diseases. Mountain honey has special skills for respiratory diseases and allergies, being a sum of nutritive and curative substances.
Honey is an effective remedy for various internal diseases and skin conditions - an excellent tonic for children, convalescents, for strengthening the immune system and for pregnant women.
By consuming honey on a regular basis - one teaspoon in the morning one hour before breakfast, one teaspoon two hours after lunch and one teaspoon after dinner - it normalizes blood pressure and digestion, reducing gastric acid levels. In case of colitis and gastritis, honey is better assimilated dissolved in warm water.
Bee products such as honey, royal jelly, pollen, propolis, bee venom and wax help strengthen the body, so that people who consume them managed to avoid almost entirely any disease.
Royal jelly is known to have a group B vitamin content higher than yeast. It has an important role in cell metabolism and brain activity, it reduces cholesterol in the blood, is useful in digestion, for combating insomnia, pernicious anemia and restoring endocrine glands.
Pollen is a protein food especially rich in elements necessary for the existence of plants and animals. One kg of pollen contains contains as many daily doses of ritin (vitamin P), as needed by several dozens of people to prevent a stroke in the brain. An important role for the normal functioning of the nervous system is held by another substance contained in pollen - Aneurin (Thiamine).
In addition, pollen is an appetite stimulant, eases digestion, improves tone, banishes fatigue, prevents rickets, hair loss and even makes your hair grow, by feeding its roots.
Propolis is made from vegetable resins, balm of different compositions, wax, essential oils, iron and trace elements - copper, zinc, manganese, cobalt, plus pollen, flavonoids, salivary gland secretions of bees.
Propolis is used as a bio stimulant, which increases endurance and eliminates fatigue. Due to its antiviral, antitoxic and anti-inflammatory properties, propolis finds more and more uses. It is a good stimulant for repair of wound affected tissue, cuts and, especially, burns, frostbites. It is very useful in healing wounds from firearms, as well as the scarring of operations. Propolis heals the oral mucosa and is beneficial for treating bleeding gums. Propolis balm protects against radiation X-ray and other kind.
Bee venom is used for healing asthma, discopathies, arthritis, rheumatism, in treating hypertension, atherosclerosis, as well as to alleviate rheumatic pain, those due to arthritis and ischemia.
Beeswax has been used since ancient times and since then its therapeutic virtues have been recognized. Even today it is used in the preparation of beeswax ointments and balms. Also, wax is used in cosmetics.
Honey is stored in tightly closed vessels, in cold, dark, dry and clean rooms. Be careful, honey should not be kept near substances that give off strong odors, because it absorbs them.
Honey is contraindicated for diabetics and the obese.
