Bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis)


Description
Bindweed is a perennial plant with voluble stem, stretched on the ground or curled around other plants, with glabra leaves alternately arranged. In the earth it has a long and thin root, white in color. The leaves are oval or sagittate, placed on a long petioleThe flowers are funnel-shaped, white with pink stripes on the outside and they smell good. It blooms from June to August. Bindweed is a common plant that grows in worked land, gardens and along roads.


Harvesting
Pull out the whole plant, with roots, before blooming (April-May).



Drying mode
Bindweed in dried in thin layers, in well ventilated areas. 4-6 kg of fresh herb are needed to obtain 1 kg of dry product.



Uses
Bindweed has laxative properties.


Observations
Together with bindweed, a plant called cow-cup (Calystegia sepium) can be harvested. This plant has a much larger port, the flowers are big, white, odorless. It grows near fences, from which it clings to, and on the edge of water. From its appearance it looks like bindweed, it blooms from July to September, it has the same uses as bindweed.
