Dead nettle (Lamium album)
Description
Dead nettle is a perennial herb, herbaceous, with a strain consisting of 4 edges, slightly hairy, with opposite leaves, petiolated, oval-shaped, toothed on the edges. The flowers are white, large, consisting of two lips, the superior one is shaped like a crest, under which there are 4 stamens and the pistil. It blooms from April until fall. It grows in forest edge, in wet ditches, along fences and roads.
Harvest
Flowers are gathered from dead nettle in dry weather, without the calyx. Harvesting begins at blooming time and continues until late fall. Sometimes the whole plant is harvested, with flowers and without roots.
Drying Mode
The flowers should be dried as soon as they are harvested, placed in thin layers, in airy or sunny rooms. Artificial drying is done at a temperature of 35 degrees C. From 6-7kg of fresh flowers you obtain 1 kg of dried product.
Uses
It is used to calm nerves and as an antiseptic, and externally in leucorrhoea. Internally: sedative, emollient, expectorant, diuretic, mild antidiarrheic. Externally: astringent.
